The December issue of SELF magazine will feature a four-page, in-depth article on marrow and cord blood donation.
The story will be online Nov. 19 and the magazine hits newsstands Nov. 23.
It will be paired with a Today Show segment this Friday, Nov. 20, 8 a.m. EST.
Reporter Sabrina Erderly broadened the focus of a story she was writing about a donor and recipient to include information about cord blood donation. Until she received a cord blood media kit from the NMDP, she was unaware that cord blood could be a source for patients who need transplants.
As part of her article, she interviewed and quoted Dr. Jeffrey Chell about the Be The Match Registry® and the need for minority donors, and Michael Boo about public cord blood donation.
Katie Quinn, a DKMS-Americas donor, donated to leukemia patient Anna Robinson two years ago. Katie, Anna and SELF’s editor in chief will appear on the Today Show segment.
